1. Clean twice a day with Sereclean® Pods

As you will be wearing your aligners for 22+ hours a day, your aligners will inevitably have a large amount of bacterial build up. This can lead to bad breath, cloudy aligners, tooth decay, thrush, gum disease and many other problems. Using Sereclean® Pods and tablets to clean your aligners has been proven to eliminate 99% of harmful bacteria. This cleans your aligners and is the safest way to ensure your teeth are not bathed in harmful bacteria all day!

2. Always keep your aligners in your travel case

Each Invisalign aligner has been handcrafted for each patient. Align uses advanced technology to ensure each aligner performs the precise prescribed movement. It is important to always keep each aligner safe in their travel case to prevent distortion, breakage and warping. If you keep aligners in tissue you run the risk of your aligners being mistaken for rubbish and being thrown away! You can purchase more travel cases here if you have lost your initial one.

3. Do not wear your Invisalign aligners whilst drinking tea/coffee

Drinking tea and coffee, whilst wearing your aligners, increases your risk of dental decay and staining to your teeth and aligners. The aligners act as a reservoir and as your teeth are bathed in the tea/coffee, you have a higher chance of developing dental decay as the bacteria can feed on this reservoir of sugar. The temperature of the tea/coffee can also distort your aligners which will make them less effective at moving your teeth. If you do accidentally drink tea/coffee whilst wearing your aligners; brush your teeth 30 minutes after and clean your aligners in a Sereclean® Pod with a Sereclean® tablet.

4. Do not bend your aligners

Bending your aligners will distort the shape which can reduce their efficiency. This may result in the aligners not tracking properly, causing delays in your treatment and potential mid-course corrections which can add extra time to your treatment.

5. Remember to wear them for at least 22 hours a day

Wearing your Invisalign for as long as possible will allow your teeth the time to move. If you do not wear your Invisalign aligners for long enough, your teeth will not move as expected and this will make your treatment longer than anticipated. It will also compromise your treatment outcomes ie. Teeth remaining crooked.

6. Establish an oral hygiene routine

As you must remove your Invisalign aligners when you eat, it is important to establish how you will brush your teeth and clean your aligners between meals. Having a travel toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste and floss with you is ideal. Using water to rinse the aligners between meals is sufficient if you are using the Sereclean® Pods to thoroughly clean your aligners at least twice a day.

7. Use Chewies

Chewies are small plastic squishy objects that help the aligners to engage better. This improves tracking and can help teeth move better. These can also be cleaned in Sereclean® Pods to prevent bacterial build up.

8. Contact your Invisalign Provider if you have any problems

It is important to contact your Invisalign provider as soon as you encounter any problems. If attachments come off or the aligners do not fit, this could compromise the treatment outcomes and prolong treatment time.

9. Change your aligners according to your prescription

Ensure to change your aligners after the prescribed number of days. Every patient will have a different prescription based on the complexity of their case. On average, aligners are changed every 7 days.

10. Attend regular reviews with your Invisalign Provider

It is important to attend your prescribed monthly appointments with your Invisalign Provider to ensure your teeth are tracking properly. They will check that there is sufficient space for your teeth to move and that all attachments are in the correct places. They may even add more attachments if needed, during your reviews.
